Greystone Shutters: from WordPress & Elementor to Astro — and why SEO clients love the switch

Greystone Shutters (greystoneshutters.co.uk) are a founder-led shutter installer covering Tipton, Dudley, Wolverhampton and the wider West Midlands. We built their first website in Elementor when the business was new — and it did its job: leads came in, the brand looked credible, and Brad and Andy had something they were proud to send people to. You can read that story in our original Greystone launch post.

Since then, we’ve moved dotwall’s own workflow to an HTML-first Astro stack, with AI as a coding partner — not a gimmick, but how we ship pages, blogs and updates day to day. Greystone are also on an ongoing SEO plan with us. The combination made this the right moment to rebuild: same business, same ambition, but a site that loads faster, ranks better, and is much easier to keep growing.

WordPress and Elementor out — Astro in

The old site wasn’t a disaster. It was a solid Elementor build from when that was our default for trades clients. But every month on SEO, we kept hitting the same friction:

  • Page speed — fine on paper, never as snappy as it should be for competitive local terms.
  • Blog and “recent work” updates — doable, but slow in the Elementor editor.
  • New landing pages for keywords — layout fights, spacing surprises, plugin niggles.
  • Credibility signals — schema, clean markup, Core Web Vitals — harder to keep perfect on a bloated theme.

The new site is built the way we now build everything: Astro, version-controlled, deployed to fast static hosting, with content structured so Google — and AI search tools — can actually understand what Greystone do and where they do it.

What changes when you’re on an SEO plan and Astro

Greystone aren’t just getting a prettier homepage. They’re on a plan where we regularly add keyword-focused pages, refresh blog content, surface recent installs, and tighten technical SEO — page insights, internal links, metadata, the lot.

On Elementor, each of those tasks meant opening the buggy editor, waiting for sections to load, and hoping nothing shifted on mobile. On Astro with our AI-assisted workflow:

  • New service or area pages ship in hours, not days — with proper headings, copy and structure for the keyword we’re targeting.
  • Blog posts (like this one) are faster to publish and stay fast when they’re live.
  • Recent work / project updates are easier to add as proper site content, not afterthoughts — which builds trust and gives Google more to index.
  • Page speed is a baseline, not a project — the kind of scores you want when you’re chasing “shutters” terms across the West Midlands.
  • Everything that boosts credibility — FAQs, reviews integration, clear NAP, schema — is baked into the template instead of plugin-stacked.

More content, more often, without the Elementor tax. That’s the SEO win: not one magic page, but a site you can keep feeding.

The flow and the feel

We’re genuinely pleased with how this one turned out. Go and look at greystoneshutters.co.uk — check the speed on mobile, scroll the shutter types, read how clear the offer is. It has a real flow: founder story up front, products explained properly, CTAs that don’t fight the layout, and a visual quality that matches a premium product.

Brad and Andy built a business on honest advice and tidy installs. The site finally feels the same — sharp, fast, and easy for us to keep improving every month they’re with us on SEO.

Thinking about your own Elementor site?

If you’re still on WordPress and Elementor and you’re paying for SEO (or you want to), ask whether the CMS is helping or hindering. Slow pages, awkward updates and plugin anxiety are all fixable — usually by moving to an HTML-first stack like the one we use on every new dotwall project.

We’ve written at length about why we killed Elementor and how our stack changed in 2026. Greystone are the latest proof that migration isn’t just for startups — it’s for established clients who’ve outgrown the builder.
