Why we built the directory in the first place
A few months ago we launched webdesignreviews.co.uk as a side project: every English county plus Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, top 30 web designers per region, refreshed monthly from Google’s APIs.
The brief we gave ourselves was deliberately boring and useful:
- Rank by real Google reviews, not ads or affiliate kickbacks
- Cover the whole UK, not just London
- Make it easy for someone searching “web designer near me” to compare local options without wading through Yell spam

And yes, we put ourselves on the board. Felt rude not to. At launch we were already #1 in Leicestershire. The reviews have kept coming, and the ranking still holds.
What “#1 in Leicestershire” actually means
It does not mean we bought a trophy. It means 131 people left a five-star Google review after working with us.
That is the same signal we bang on about for clients: SEO gets you found; reviews help people choose you once they are looking.
